Jr Loons Activities

In 2022 the LWCA applied for a grant to hire a summer student. Sarah Hebon was hired and ran a series of fun events in July & August, such as hikes, making crafts, a scavenger hunt and beach day. It was a lot of fun and well attended.

Due to Covid 19, Junior Loons events were on hold for the summers of 2020 and 2021.

In 2019 there were two Junior Loons events during the summer:

  1. Saturday July 6th: Potholes HikeThe Junior Loons met at cottage 23 in Otter Lake and from there, hiked to the potholes, picking blueberries along the way. Afterwards the Junior Loons had a picnic lunch and swam in the lake. Thanks to Carrie Howes for hosting!
  2. Sunday August 4th: Beach Day
The Junior Loons were dropped off at Bell's dock #233 and after they gathered, hiked along the shore to the beach. They were put into teams where they came up with a team name and cheer. Once that was done, the teams competed in several fun water games. A picnic lunch followed. What a great day! Thanks to Carol & Chris Bell for hosting and Kris Humphreys and Carrie Howes for organizing.

If you are interested in helping organize Junior Loons events for next summer, please contact Carrie carrie@rayleighcapital.com or sign up on the volunteer page of this website.

Lake Stewards

The summer of 2019 was the first year of our Lake Stewards program. Our volunteers started their summer off by painting new (and much needed!) trail head signs for the main hiking trails on Weslemkoon and Otter Lakes. They then worked on creating Instagram posts for our Instagram account, assisted with Water Quality Testing, checked to ensure the Geocaches were in the correct locations and properly stocked with supplies, helped out at the AGM, and re roofed Pike's Peak. Lots of High School volunteer hours were awarded during our successful first summer!

If you are over age 12 and would like to become a Lake Steward please contact us!
